Iron Modifier

Made with ferrous sulphate and water, used to 'sadden' inks, creating darker tones and blacks.

The iron modifier works well with Brunel's Bristol Brown (shifts to dark brown/grey/black) and Madder Red (darkens to terracotta/rich browns).

Sometimes the reaction can be gentle, then over time the ink can really darken, shifting to gorgeous rich tones, alchemy!

How to use...

Shake well and use sparingly, a little goes a long way! One or two drops will make a difference, experiment with proportions to make a variety of tones.

Mix in a separate dish so as to not contaminate your whole bottle of ink.

Please note: Iron modifier will not work with Oak Gall and Iron ink as this has already been mixed together

Please thoroughly wash all nibs and brushes after use, and keep the modifier separate from other colours, don't cross contaminate other inks by dipping your brush/pen into other bottles. Instead, pour a little into a dish. (Keep a set of brushes that you only use for iron shifted inks as iron is very hard to completely clean out)

Store your modifier out of direct sunlight, in a cool, dry place.

Health and Safety...
